Who’s Hiring in Florida?
I’m continuing my “Who’s Hiring” series by heading one state south of where I currently live to the sunny state of Florida. I’ll admit, it’s a little in my own self interest to look there for who’s hiring, as I’d like to end up there someday, possibly before I retire.
There’s a reason Florida has over 18 million people — it’s a great place to live. There’s over 600 miles of coastline, lots of sun, fresh oranges and Walt Disney World. If you’re willing to deal with the occasional alligator, life should be great. But the fact is, the unemployment rate in Florida is high right now, around 11% at the time of this writing. With that in mind, jobs are tough to find, so let’s dig in and find you a new job!
Who’s Hiring in Florida?
- Walt Dinsey World: No discussion of Florida employers can miss the big one in the middle of the state. Right now they have 68 positions open in and around Orlando, from internships to the lofty Senior Vice President of Worldwide Travel Operations. Check out Disney’s career page for what’s open now.
- Acousti Engineering: Like carpentry? This construction firm is currently seeking entrants for it’s acoustical carpentry apprenticeship. Check out their careers page.
- Ryder: Likely best known for their rental trucks is based in Miami and have 21 openings, around the sate, ranging from a management trainee, to multiple director posisitons. Check Ryder’s career site for current openings.
- Burger King: That’s right, “The King” is hiring, and there’s plenty to do besides making fries. They’ve got almost 20 corporate openings in Miami right now. Here’s the BK career page.
- Wellcraft: With so much water, it makes sense that a boat manufacturer is in the sate. Wellcraft has been building boats for a while. Check out their home page to see if they are hiring.
- Charter One Hotels & Resorts: With the tourism industry comes hotels, and Charter One is looking for hotel staff now. Their career page.
- Publix: Imagine working between the beach and Orlando’s theme parks at a place ranked as one of the top 100 employers in the US. Publix has some 3,000 people working behind the scenes to keep their 1,000+ grocery stores running smoothly. Check out the Publix careers page to see who they are hiring now.
- Upscale clothing retailer has its headquarters based in this beautiful coastal city. Jacksonville manages to mix a bit of its northern neighbor’s, Savannah Georgia’s, southern charm with a hint of the warmer vibe of it’s southern neighbor, Miami. Naturally, there are many, many more employers hiring in Florida, but I’ve just tried to give you a hint of Florida-based companies that might be hiring for corporate/career jobs now. I’ve also just brushed some of the cities, so there are jobs from the capitol in Tallahassee, all the way down to Key West, so don’t get discouraged, your next job could be in the Sunshine State!
