Tax Time Links
A recent email from CompleteTax reminded me that the IRS was accepting electronic tax returns as of the 16th of January. Could it be? Is tax season already here? The answer is an obvious yes, so I thought I’d share some tax links to get us all pointed in the right direction.
Individual:
- IRS Individual Tax main page – I was actually pretty surprised at how much information was there.
- Findlaw’s Tax Timeline for 2009 – a very consise layout of the important dates.
- IRS’s Forms and Instructions – The source for all the forms
- four
Business:
- IRS Small Business Tax Calendar – I’ve known a few people who ran their own small corporations. Knowing the filing dates, dates for estimated tax payments, etc, was important.
- State government website links from the IRS.
Books:
- Taxes 2009 For Dummies (Taxes for Dummies) – Hey, when it comes to taxes, at least 99% of us are dummies.
- J.K. Lasser’s Your Income Tax 2009: For Preparing Your 2008 Tax Return – In case you’re afraid of being called a dummy – also it has a 5-star review so far.
- Congressman John Linder and loudmouth radio host Neil Boortz have a outrageous idea that’s gaining in popularity: get rid of the IRS. It’s not some anti-government tirade, but a plan to find a better way for our government to raise revenue. Certainly worth a read, if only to make you seem informed at the watercooler this April 15th: The Fair Tax Book: Saying Goodbye to the Income Tax and the IRS and their follow-up FairTax: The Truth: Answering the Critics
Obligatory disclaimer: I’m obviously not a professional tax adviser, lawyer or anything of the sort and you should find a qualified professional to help you, but I thought you might find what I’ve shared useful.

Hi – Love the resource links. Looks like the FindLaw link goes to IRS instead of to the timeline: http://taxes.findlaw.com/taxes-timeline.html
Thanks! I’ll fix that right now. Now the link should go to the right spot.
