Financial Five: January 9th, 2008

This week’s collection of five financial stories that caught my eye on social financial news site Afternoon Rally and other sites around the web.

  1. 7.2% Start the New Year out of work.  The unemployment numbers for 2008 grew dramatically through November and didn’t stop yet.
  2. Best Buy Bombs: Part of the unemployment problem stems from a weak retail sector and Best Buy just might join Circuit City in closing stores if things don’t change.
  3. Pricing stocks in a jobs apocalypse: In spite rising unemployment, stocks aren’t as down as one might think they should be — yet.
  4. Mini Splurges: MSN Money wants you to forget all that unemployment news and the joys of owning nothing and get yourself something small.
  5. How to be Successful in the New Year: On a positive note, “Lazy Man” seems awfully ambitious with his great list of tips to kick start us in the new year. Great read.

May the start of this year find you employed and successful.  But in the mean time, enjoy your weekend!
