Financial Five, Friday the 13th, 2009
This week’s collection of five financial stories that caught my eye on social news site Afternoon Rally and other spots around the web.
- The Audacity of Doing Nothing: Harvard Blogger Philip Greenspun makes an audacious statement against the stimulus.
- Scam Spotters: I wrote a guide on how to spot a scam recently so this list of 10 scams everyone should be aware of caught my eye. Takeaway: If someone offers you their car keys for 20 bucks, just say no.
- A Penny For Your Trivia: I posted on the new pennies the US Mint is putting out this year, so I found Free Money Finance’s facts on pennies and coins interesting. Oh, yes, the coin is actually called the “cent” as one of FMF’s commenters was sure to point out.
- Maverick Funding: Billionaire Mark Cuban wants to fund your next project. What’s the catch? No business models that rely on ads, you’ve got to break even in 60 days and turn a profit by 90 to stay funded. Oh, and you have to be willing to share that money making idea with everyone. Marketing guru Seth Godin thinks this is a great idea, I wonder why I’d need money if I’m turning a profit in 3 months flat.
