Donate Phone Cards to US Troops

It’s amazing what a phone call can do.  It can keep a family bond alive over distances, help take care of personal matters from miles away and just give us someone to talk to on the road.  The holidays have may have passed and we have a new president, but the US troops are still stationed overseas and facing danger away from family.

Here’s how you can help.

The USO has made it possible to send the troops a calling card to help them keep in touch and keep their home lives in order from around the world.  I’ve blogged about giving before and this seems like a good way to show your support.

The great thing is that the USO is running the show, and they have over six decades of experience helping out US troops at home and abroad. The USO, most famous for the entertainment they provide for the troops, isn’t part of the US Government, they rely on donations to keep going, that’s why your donation is so important.

I also love the choice of a calling card.  Just $15 gives a GI in Iraq 45 minutes of calling time, and $100 buys 300 minutes, or 5 hours of calling, which gives 10 minutes a day to keep in touch — not much time to us, but a word of difference to someone thousands of miles away.

So if you have a friend or loved one overseas, or want to show your support please consider this a chance to give the gift of keeping in touch to our troops.  Thanks.
